Obituary of Gilmer Bost

Gilmer Jackson “Jackie” Bost, 71 of Mt. Pleasant, passed away Tuesday, December 12 at his residence.

Funeral service will be 2:00pm Saturday, Dec. 16 at Bethel (Bear Creek) Reformed Church, officiated by Rev. Patrick McCabe, burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The Bost family will receive friends from 5-7pm Friday at Gordon Funeral Home of Mt. Pleasant.

Jackie was born August 27, 1946 in Cabarrus County the son of the late Gilmer L. Bost and Lillie Shoe Bost.  He lived in the same house in which he was born his entire life. Only moved once-from west side to east side of the house.  He was a life member of Bethel (Bear Creek) Reformed Church. Jackie never allowed his physical disability to prevent him from achieving his goals, dreams, or passion.  He was able to complete his education with the assistance of a homebound teacher and graduated with his class from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1964.  Jackie was a well-known amateur radio operator for over 30 years and served as president of the Cabarrus Amateur Radio club for several years. His call letters were KA4CMC.  He assisted many with learning Morse code and receiving their amateur radio licenses. He was also a member of North Carolina Studebaker Drivers Club and loved sharing his passion of antique automobiles with everyone.  He gained his love of animals from his mother and his little dog Hank was his pride and joy.  He found happiness listening to Hank Williams, Sr., Paul Harvey’s The Rest of the Story, and going on adventures in his Richard Petty Blue van.  Jackie had a passion for genealogy and was known as the family historian and he loved to share his stories. Since 2010 he was cared for by many Bayada nurses, whom he loved as family.  He was preceded in death by a sister, Peggy Ogburn and brothers, Herman Bost and Brown Bost.

He is survived by sisters, Elizabeth Betty Isenhour of Mooresville and Rachel Harrison of Concord and a special niece Donna Ogburn, as well as many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to Bethel (Bear Creek) Reformed Church, 18937 Bear Creek Church Road, Mt. Pleasant, NC 28124
