William Orlando Barnhardt, Jr., a dedicated church member, community member and beloved family man, passed away at his residence on November13, 2024, at the age of 85, following a short period of declining health. Born on August 5, 1939, in Cabarrus County, North Carolina, Bill left an indelible mark on his community and those who had the privilege of knowing him.
Visitation will be held on November 18, 2024, from 1:30 PM to 3:15 PM at Cold Springs Global Methodist Church, located at 2550 Cold Springs Rd, Concord, NC 28025, followed by a funeral service starting at 3:30 PM, officiated by Rev. Cliff Wall: burial will follow in the church cemetery.
He was a proud graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School, class of 1959. He established himself over the years as a business owner, operating Rockwell Auto and Tractor Parts (NAPA) until his retirement in 2004. His passion for tractors extended beyond his vocation; he was a lifelong tractor enthusiast known for his remarkable skill in restoring vintage Ford tractors, reflecting his dedication to preserving a piece of history.
A devoted member of Cold Springs Global Methodist Church, Bill participated actively, serving on various committees and as a committed member of the Methodist Men. He was also active in scouting at Cold Springs with Troop 5 achieving the rank of Eagle Scout. His faith was a cornerstone of his life, guiding his actions and his service to the community. Notably, Bill's commitment to his community extended beyond the walls of the church as he volunteered as a fireman in Mt. Pleasant for 34 years; exemplifying his dedication to the safety and well-being of those he served.
Bill is survived by his daughter, Laura B. Bryant (Phillip); son, William O. Barnhardt, III (Emily); three grandchildren, Kayleigh Cleveland (Justin), Nathan Bryant (Victoria), and Jason Barnhardt (Samantha); and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters, Kathy Flowe (Mike) and Joyce Allmon (Dexter), along with sister-in-law and special companion, Carol Barnhardt and sister-in-law Lila Barnhardt.
He was preceded in death by his beloved high school sweetheart and wife of 52 years, Rebecca Ann Hurlocker Barnhardt, along with his parents, William O. Barnhardt, Sr. and Essie Mae Burris Barnhardt. Bill was also preceded by his brothers, Archie Barnhardt and Troy Barnhardt, as well as his sister, Shirley Barnhardt Hurlocker, and brothers-in-law, Alvin Hurlocker and Meredith Hurlocker.
In lieu of flowers the family request that memorials be made in Bill’s name to Cold Springs Global Methodist Church, Cemetery Fund, 2550 Cold Springs Rd., Concord, NC 28025 or Atrium Health Hospice and Palliative Care, 5003 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis, NC 28083
William Orlando Barnhardt, Jr.'s legacy of love, service, and passion for life will be cherished by all who knew him. His memory will live on through his family and the community where he made countless contributions, leaving behind a well-deserved legacy of kindness and dedication.
