Mr. William "Bill" Reid Arey, Jr., of Concord, NC, died January 3, 2013 at CMC-Northeast.
Memorial service will be 3:30pm Sunday, January 6, 2013 at Calvary Lutheran Church officiated by the Rev. Debbie Frye. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.
The Arey family will receive friends from 2-3:15pm Sunday in the church fellowship hall.
Bill was born February 8, 1925 in Cabarrus County, son of the late William Reid Arey, Sr., and Margaret Caroline Honeycutt. He was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church and was a lifetime member of the Lutheran Men. He began his professional career in 1950 working for Winthrop Laboratories. In 1995, Bill was selected as an honorary member of the NC Society of Radiologic Technologists, Inc. He was a WWII US Navy Veteran and graduated from the University of North Carolina in 1949. Bill also served as a member and past president of the Concord Civitan Club. After retirement he and his son Reid operated the Ye Olde Clock Shoppe. Among Bill's favorite duties were attending SOS, selling records, sharing stories and memories, and cheering on the Tar Heels. He was preceded in death by his wife Iris Martin Arey and his son William Reid Arey, III.
He is survived by a daughter Betsy Arey Freeman (Tom) of Littleton, NC; daughter-in-law Ava Arey Jermyn (Bill), of Mt. Pleasant; brother J. Vincent Arey of Concord. He was Pap-paw to grandchildren Jayme Freeman, of Burlington, NC; Joel Freeman (Heather) of Wilkesboro, NC; and Will Arey of Durham, NC; and great-grandchildren Makenna and Addisen Freeman of Wilkesboro, NC. He also is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
