Wayne Fred Miller, 72, passed peacefully Thursday, Oct. 20, 2016, at Carolinas Medical Center-Northeast. He was surrounded by family and friends who will miss his dearly.
A celebration of Wayne’s life will begin at 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 23, at Cold Springs United Methodist Church with the Rev. Tony Bell and the Rev. Mary Hatley officiating. His family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday at Gordon Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant.
A native of Yadkin County, NC, Wayne was born Dec. 24, 1943, to the late Fred Julius Miller and Cora Zettie Hobson Miller. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Wingate and enjoyed a career in IT operations with First Union National Bank, Wachovia Bank and Allied Financial Services, retiring as a senior vice president.
A member of Cold Springs, he was active in its leadership, sang in the Men’s Ensemble and directed plays. He enjoyed being outdoors and took particular delight in hunting and fishing. It was outdoors where he felt closest to his Maker, often calling the outdoors his sanctuary. He was also a Mason.
Wayne is survived by his wife of 51 years, Sylvia Johnson Miller of the home; two daughters, Renee M. Skey (James Edward Skey, Jr.) and Sonjia M. Heath (William Carter Heath); five grandchildren, Maya, Ava, Jackson, Harrison and Mary Madison; and a sister, Olese M. Matthews.
