Terri Hones Carter

Teresa “Terri” Renee Hones Carter, of Concord, went to her heavenly home, Friday April 1, 2022 after passing away at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington.

Funeral services will be held 2pm, Friday April 8, at Gordon Funeral Home of Mt. Pleasant. Burial will follow at Cabarrus Memorial Gardens. The Carter family will receive friends to celebrate her life from 1-2pm prior to the service.

Teresa “Terri” Renee Hones Carter was born to C.W. Hones and Elsie Biddy Hones in Gaston County. She graduated from Ashbrook High School in Gastonia. Terri was an advocate for education and was proud to hold several degrees and was currently working towards her doctorate in Theology. Terri graduated from Winthrop University with her Masters degree, where she found her passion for medicine and diabetes education. She furthered her education at Life Christian University where she was currently working to obtain a doctorate in Theology.

Terri retired from Atrium Health where she worked as a Registered Dietician and was also a Diabetes Educator. Aside from medicine, Terri was passionate about ministering. She was a member at Federal Point Pentecostal Church, in Wilmington, where she preached once monthly for the better part of a decade.

Terri was married for 34 years to Jeff Carter of Concord. She had two children that she was immensely proud of, Whitney Shefte and Amber Carter Barnhardt. Terri had twin grand boys that she adored. She rarely went a day without seeing them for the four years she knew them. Terri also had another grandchild, whom we know she already knows, with an arrival coming this spring.

Terri was looking forward to spending her retirement at the beach with her cherished grandchildren within earshot. She was passionate about her ministry and looking forward to continuing to minister for many years to come.

Survivors left to cherish her memory are her husband, Jeff Carter; two daughters, Whitney Shefte (Hugh) and Amber Carter Barnhardt (Caleb); two grandchildren, Finn and Lucas Barnhardt.
