Mrs. Ruth Rebecca Allmon Barringer, 92, widow of R.J. Barringer, Cabarrus County farmer and lumberman, of Mount Pleasant, died Wednesday, November 23, 2011 at Transitional Health Services.
Graveside service will be 2:30pm Saturday at Saint John's Lutheran Church Cemetery, Concord, conducted by Rev. Richard B. Graf.
Mrs. Barringer was born July 26, 1919 in Stanly County, daughter of James Thomas Allmon, Sr. and Effie Rose Rowland Allmon. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a step-mother Elsie May McSwain Allmon, and brothers Claude Deberry Allmon and James 'Jay' Thomas Allmon, Jr.
An outstanding seamstress and baker, Mrs. Barringer derived endless pleasure from a life-long hobby of collecting antique furniture and china. In addition to her duties as a homemaker, she culminated a career in the hosiery textile industry in various supervisory positions. Mrs. Barringer was a former member of Saint John's Lutheran Church and later became a member of The Lutheran Church of The Holy Trinity, Mount Pleasant.
She is survived by daughter Cathey Elizabeth Barringer and husband George Coleman Matuck of Laurel Springs, NC and Vass, NC; grandson John Harold Lomax of Shreveport, Louisiana; great- granddaughter Phaedra Lauren Lomax also of Shreveport; half-sister Geneva Allmon Harrison of Raleigh; and beloved nieces and nephew.
