Robert Franklin Taylor, 83, of New London, passed away March 19, 2018, at CHS-Northeast following declining health.
A celebration of his life will begin at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 24, in the chapel of Gordon Funeral Home of Mt. Pleasant with the Rev. Steve Phillippi officiating. The Taylor family will receive friends there beginning at 1 p.m. Interment will follow at Cabarrus Memorial Gardens in Concord with masonic graveside rites.
Robert was born October 18, 1934, in Johnson City, New York, to the late Wallace Russell Taylor and Anita Claire Lavelle Taylor. He also was predeceased by his wife, Alice Grow Taylor, who died in 2010; his son, Richard Scott Taylor; a brother, Donald Taylor; and a sister, Joan T. Gurney.
Following a 50-year career as a truck driver who owned and operated his own business, Robert trained as an electrician, owning and operating Badin Lake Electric until retiring in 2006. In leisure hours, he enjoyed woodworking and was a fan of the Carolina Panthers and NASCAR racing, especially Sterling Marlin. He attended Chandler’s Grove United Methodist Church and was a member of Solomon Staircase Lodge #357 in Buena Park, California.
Robert is survived by two daughters, Joy T. Simpson (Robert) of Mt. Pleasant, and Bobbie T. Baker (Edward) of Stanfield; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Frances T. Lamb and Linda Taylor; and a brother-in-law, Stewart Gurney.
