Richard Barton Lance, Jr.

Mr. Richard Barton Lance, Jr. of Mount Pleasant died Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at his home.  A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 5, at 11:00 am at Gordon Funeral Home Chapel officiated by ministers Kirk Sams and Jonathan Overcash, Sr.  The family will receive friends prior to the service from 9:30 – 11:00 am. 

Richard was born in Dawsonville, GA to the late Richard Barton Lance, Sr. and Gladys Kerns Lance on July 20, 1941.  He was preceded in death by four siblings. Richard worked as a mechanic and carried his knowledge of engines to his hobby and love for racing.  He especially enjoyed being involved in local dirt track racing.  He was a regular at the Circle K in Mt. Pleasant and shared coffee there with many.  He was a member of Kannapolis Church of Christ.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Judith Brewer Lance, daughters; Lisa Maxwell (Keith) of Fayetteville, NC and Margaret Lewis (Neil) of Concord, sons; Rusty Lance (Katrina) of Fayetteville, NC and Jonathan Overcash, Sr. (Rose) of Edgewater, FL.  He had 10 grandchildren; Christopher Lance, Justin Lewis (Sarah), Shannon Overcash, Elizabeth Overcash, Drew Lewis, Emily Allman (Darrell), Jonathan Overcash, Jr., Shyanne Maxwell, Heather Maxwell and Michael Overcash and 4 great grandchildren; Melody Lance, Ethan Lance, Teaguen Lewis and Hayes Lewis.
