Rebecca Ann Hurlocker Barnhardt, 74, died Thursday, June 11, 2015, at her home following a period of declining health.
A celebration of Rebecca’s life will begin at 3 p.m. on Sunday, June 14, at Cold Springs United Methodist Church, 2550 Cold Springs Road, Concord. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, June 13, at Gordon Funeral Home, 8559 Cook Street, Mt. Pleasant, (704) 436-9915.
Born in Stanly County, April 3, 1941, she was the daughter of Bruner and Ida Mae Drye Hurlocker. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother Meredith Hurlocker. A 1959 graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School and a 1962 graduate of the Presbyterian School of Nursing in Charlotte, Rebecca retired as a registered nurse from Ardsley Medical Group. She was active in her church where she served as a beloved choir director, organist, pianist, youth leader and Sunday school teacher.
She is survived by her high school sweetheart and husband of 52 years, William O. Barnhardt Jr.; a daughter, Laura Barnhardt Bryant and husband, Phil; a son, William O. Barnhardt III and wife, Emily; a granddaughter, Kayleigh Barnhardt and Fiancé, Justin Cleveland; two grandsons, Nathan Bryant and Jason Barnhardt; one brother, Alvin Hurlocker and wife, Shirley.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made in Rebecca’s name to Cold Springs United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, 2550 Cold Springs Road, Concord, NC, 28025.
