Peggy Joyce Murph Barrier, 78, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away Wednesday, January 29, 2020, at Atrium Health-Cabarrus.
Peggy’s life will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Saturday, February 8, at the Lutheran Church of the Holy Trinity, where she was a member, long-time organist and former financial secretary. The Rev. Dan Dahl will officiate, and burial will follow in the church cemetery. The Barrier family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Gordon Funeral Home.
A native of Iredell County, Peggy was born on March 14, 1941 to Charles R. Murph and Mary Bell Anderson Murph. She received a Bachelor of Arts in music education from Lenoir Rhyne University and enjoyed teaching music to all ages. Peggy was active in the Mt. Pleasant Lions Club and served as assistant secretary and treasurer for four years. Her fondest leisure activity was observing and feeding the many varieties of birds that visited her feeders year round.
Peggy is survived by her husband of 53 years, George L. Barrier; III, two sons, Buddy Barrier (Holly) and Steve Barrier (Kellie); four grandchildren, Amanda Nicole Barrier, Chandler Collins, Sarah Kate Hamilton Barrier, and Andrew David Barrier; and a brother, Charles R. Murph, Jr. (Doris) of Greensboro.
