Paige Rush Johnson

Paige Rush Johnson, 85 of Concord, passed away at Tucker Hospice House on Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2017.

A service in celebration and memory of Paige’s life will begin at 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 6, in the chapel of Gordon Funeral Home, 8559 Cook Street, Mt. Pleasant. His family will receive friends there beginning at 2 p.m.

Paige was born in Montgomery County, NC, on Sept. 21, 1932, to Benjamin Johnson and Louise Rush Johnson. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers-in-law Robert Gaddy and Fred Housley, and his son-in-law Tim Taylor. He was a member of First Assembly Worship Center.

A US Army veteran, Paige served his country as a Morse Code operator in the Korean War. He was a career truck driver, logging years and miles behind the wheel for L.G. DeWitt Trucking, Central Motor Lines and Johnson Motor Lines before retiring as the owner-operator of P&S Trucking. He received the Golden Achievement Award for 50 years of consecutive service to the trucking industry by the American Truck Historical Society. Paige loved his family and was a devoted fan of the UNC Tar Heels.

Paige is survived by his wife of 63 years, Shirley Maness Johnson of the home; a son, Randy Johnson (Donna), and a daughter, Wanda J. Taylor, both of Mt. Pleasant; two sisters, Sara Housley of Pekin, and Doris Gaddy of Troy; 3 grandchildren, Brian Taylor (Ashley) of Mt. Pleasant, Kris Taylor of Charlotte, Drake Johnson of Mt. Pleasant; two great grandchildren, Corbin Timothy Taylor, Tucker Rush Taylor.
