Osco Sylvester (O.S.) Culp, Jr., 91, died Thursday, Dec. 31, 2015, at his home.
A celebration of his life will begin at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 3, 2016, at Bethlehem United Methodist Church officiated by Pastor Beverly Maulden, Rev. Billy Ervin and Rev. Rick Durham. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall beginning at 1 p.m. Burial in the church cemetery will follow the service. Pallbearers will be Alan Culp, Andrew Culp, Brad Cress, Tony Boger, Wayne Hammill, David Hammill, Ronnie Hahn and Ben Franklin. Honorary pallbearers will be Eric Culp, Wayne Flowers, Barry Hammill, Jerry Hammill and Ben Culp.
A native of Cabarrus County, O.S. was born on Jan. 6, 1924, to Osco Sylvester Culp, Sr., and Florence Hammill Culp. He was predeceased by his parents, six brothers and four sisters.
O.S. was an avid community leader and a life-time member of Bethlehem UMC where he served on various committees. He was a devoted family man and provider as demonstrated by his lifelong love of farming. He was the last surviving member of Elm Grove Farm and Culp Brothers Inc. where he was a partner and worked in earth moving and construction for 50 years.
O.S. is survived by his wife of 69 years, Mildred Kluttz Culp of the home; two daughters, Sharon C. Barringer (Robby) and Beth Misenheimer (Terry); three grandchildren, Ryan Barringer (Katrina), Shanda Apple, and Brent Earnhardt (Shelly); and six great-grandchildren, Nolan Barringer, Knox Barringer, Dalton Earnhardt, Bryleigh Apple, Gunur Ross, and Mavrik Ross.
