Novella Nolen Smith, 91, of Concord died peacefully surrounded by her children on Aug. 11, 2015.
A celebration of Novella's life will begin at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 14, 2015, at Cold Springs United Methodist Church, 2550 Cold Springs Road, Concord, NC, 28025, with the Rev. Tony Bell and the Rev. Mary Hatley presiding. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 1 p.m. Interment will follow in Cold Springs UMC cemetery.
She was born in Mecklenburg County to William C. and Florence Ida Nolen, but grew up in Cabarrus County. She was a homemaker and worked at the Fair Martin box factory for 20 years before retiring in 1986.
Novella loved to sew and make clothing for herself and her daughters. She especially loved working in her yard and flower garden. Spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren was the joy of her life. She had a special place in her heart for her cats, Tinker Bell and Peewee. She is now at home with her Savior, with loved ones and her beloved pets.
A lifetime member of Cold Springs UMC, Novella is survived by her three children, Bruce D. Smith (Gloria) of Concord, Brenda S. Morse of Charlotte and Joyce S. Tolbert of Greensboro; two grandchildren, Melanie Grashot (Garen) of Madison, AL, and Dr. Jeffery Smith of New York, NY; and ; two great-grandchildren, Lucas Grashot and Elise Grashot. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Alvis Fetzer Smith and her daughter, Mary Ann Smith.
