Mary Louise Simmons Sapp, 93, of Concord, passed away at her home on Monday, Jan. 29, 2018.
A celebration of her life will begin at 11:00 am Saturday at Concord First Assembly, Suite 15, 280 Concord Parkway, Concord. The family will greet friends following the service.
A Cabarrus County native, Mary Louise was born July 16, 1924, to Oliver D. Simmons and Sallie Williams Simmons. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, John Sapp in 2010, and her daughter, Lynne S. Bizzell, in 2004.
She was a graduate of Concord High School and earned a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in Education from UNC-Charlotte. As a professor at UNC-Charlotte she taught Early Childhood Development Education for 15 years and retired in 1989.
As a member of First Assembly, Mary Louise was very active in establishing Specialized Ministries, a ministry for handicapped adults. She helped lead them in weekly Sunday night worship services and yearly beach trips. When not serving others, she loved to travel, fish, read books and spend time with friends and family.
Survivors include her daughter Ruthie S. Moser and husband, Don; son-in-law, Charlie Bizzell; and two grandchildren, Candace and Cole Moser.
