Mary R. Mills, 96, passed away early Sunday, morning at Universal Health Care and Rehab of Concord, NC.
The family will receive friends starting at 1 PM Tuesday, March 26, at First Baptist Church, Mt. Pleasant. The funeral service will follow the visitation at 2:30 PM. The Rev. Tom Fleming of First Baptist and the Rev. Larry Mills of Jackson, Mississippi will officiate.
Burial will follow the service at Mission Baptist Church Cemetery, Locust, NC.
Born May 10, 1916 in Merriweather County, Georgia, Mary was a daughter of the late Nannie Hattaway and William H. Railey. She was preceded in death by husbands James W. Cato, A.A. Hathcock and Harry Smith Mills; three step-daughters, Louise Mills Cline, Betty Jean Hathcock Cooper and Iris Hathcock Eagle Nabors; two step-sons, Ira (Bud) Mills and Robert E. Mills; a sister and three brothers.
She is survived by a step-son, Rev. Larry Mills and wife Sally of Jackson, MS; seventeen grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mary was a textile worker until her retirement. She was a much loved mother and grandmother, a devoted long time member of First Baptist Church, and friend to many. She enjoyed working in her vegetable and flower gardens and with her potted plants. One of her favorite pastimes was baking cakes, which she would always share with family and friends. Mary was a volunteer for many years at CMC-Northeast.
The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff at Universal Health Care for the wonderful care they provided Mary during her stay there.
