Mary Lee Yount Kluttz, 83, of Mt. Pleasant, died Friday, Dec. 14, 2012, at CMC-Northeast following a brief illness.
A celebration of Mary Lee's life will begin at 11am on Monday, December 17, 2012 at St. James Reformed Church, corner of College and Walnut streets in Mt. Pleasant. The Rev. Gene Frady will officiate, and burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8p.m. on Sunday, December 16, 2012, at Gordon Funeral Home, 8559 Cook Street, Mt. Pleasant, (704) 436-9915.
A Hickory, NC, native, Mary Lee was the youngest of three children born to the late Hugh Preston Yount and Myrtle Seaboch Yount. She was predeceased by a brother, Howard Yount. A graduate of Lenoir-Rhyne University, she moved to Mt. Pleasant in 1950 to teach Bible at Mt. Pleasant High School. She was an avid reader, an accomplished craftswoman and a year-round gardener who lived her faith daily. Devoted to her family she delighted in caring for her husband, children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Carl Dwight Kluttz, Sr., of the home; three daughters, Carol K. Moffitt (Charlie) of Kannapolis, Martha K. Hatley of Mt. Pleasant, and Amy K. Bigger (William) of Keysville, VA; two sons, Carl Dwight Kluttz, Jr. (Connie) of Gastonia, N.C., and David Hugh Kluttz (Kima) of Gold Hill; 14 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Glenn (Doris) Yount of Hickory. She is also survived by a brother-in-law, Arthur L. Kluttz (Bertha), and a sister-in-law, Miriam K. Swaringen, all of Mt. Pleasant.
