Mary Brown Helms Faggart, 92, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away Thursday, December 31, 2020, at Universal Health Care in Concord.
A celebration of her life will begin at 11 a.m. Monday, January 4, 2021, in the sanctuary of her church, Mt. Pleasant United Methodist. The Rev. Earl Bradshaw will officiate, and burial will follow in the church cemetery. The Faggart family will receive friends beginning at 9:30 a.m. at The Lighthouse.
Brown was born in Cabarrus County on March 26, 1928, to Walter C. Helms and Inah Eudy Helms. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by all her siblings, Sue Lambert, Ada Rose Howard, Yvonne Faggart, Bernice Mullis and Kenneth Helms, as well as her husband of 69 years, Harry Hampton Faggart, who died in May 2017.
She was a homemaker who opened the Faggart home to care for generations of local children, becoming a beloved babysitter who was affectionately known as “Miss Brown” by the children she cared for and their parents. She was active in all aspects of the mission and ministry of her church, with singing in the choir and teaching Sunday school being her favorites.
Brown is survived by two daughters, Cynthia F. Efird, and Shelia F. Harwood; a granddaughter, Gloria E. Medlin (Todd); and four great-grandchildren, River, Emma, Walker and Sawyer Medlin.
