Mary Barnhardt

Mary Elizabeth Walker Barnhardt, 90, passed away peacefully, on Wednesday, July 10, 2013. She was born January 14, 1923 in Cabarrus County to Oscar and Laura (Cline) Walker. Mary grew up in Cabarrus County and graduated from Mount Pleasant High School in 1941. She married Paul Barnhardt in 1942 and together they raised their three children until his death in 1963. Mary was employed by Cannon Mills in the Plant I Sewing Room for 44 years. She was an excellent seamstress, baker and an outstanding gardener. She was an active member of Cold Springs United Methodist Church, where she was a charter member of the Martha Avett subgroup of the United Methodist Women. The Golden Age Travelers provided Mary with much enjoyment in her retirement years. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Roy Brown Walker and a sister, Katherine Walker Gentry. She is survived by her sons, Wayne Barnhardt and wife Deanna, Steve Barnhardt and wife Theresa, her daughter, Paula Barnhardt Baldwin and husband Kenneth. Grandchildren are Philip Barnhardt and wife Rhonda, Timothy Barnhardt, Elizabeth Barnhardt Burrill and husband Steven, Brandon Barnhardt and wife Maegan, Landon Barnhardt, Chance Barnhardt and Stevie Ann Barnhardt. Surviving also are nine great grandchildren and her faithful canine companion, Missy. The family would like to extend their thanks to Dr. Brent Kelly and Cabarrus Family Physicians as well as the staff of the Cabarrus Family Physicians unit at CMC-Northeast for their devotion to her care. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3:30 PM on Sunday, July 14th at Cold Springs United Methodist Church. A service of remembrance will be held at 3:30PM and burial will follow in the church cemetery.
