Mary Irene Burris Allmon

Mary Irene Burris Allmon, 95, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away Thursday, March 8, 2018, at CHS-Northeast.

A celebration of her life will begin at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 11, at Friendship United Methodist Church, where she was a long-time active member. The Rev. Roger Armistead will officiate, and burial will follow in the church cemetery. The Allmon family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday, March 10, at Gordon Funeral Home of Mt. Pleasant.

Mary was born September 9, 1922, in Cabarrus County to the late William Henry Burris and Mary Elizabeth Layton Burris. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Monroe Allmon, who died in 1999.

She especially enjoyed being a member of Friendship’s United Methodist Women’s group and participating in its outreach to the community and greater world. A talented craftswoman, she enjoyed quilting, sewing, growing flowers, tending a vegetable garden and working jigsaw puzzles. In all those pursuits, patience was the gift she shared by example.

Mary is survived by two sons, William B. Allmon, and wife, Judy, and Clyde Allmon, and wife, Shelia; a brother, Rayvon Burris; a sister, Mina Mae Drye; five grandchildren, Anita, Chris, Kevin, Chad and April; and 10 great-grandchildren.
