Martha Louise Leggett

Martha Louise Calloway Leggett (“Toad”), 80, of Mt. Pleasant, beloved mother, mother-in-law, sister, sister-in-law, mamaw, grandma, great-grandma and aunt went to be with her Lord on Saturday, May 4, 2019, at Accordius Health in Salisbury.

A celebration of her life will begin at 6:00pm Wednesday, May 8, at the Community Church of Mt. Pleasant with the Rev. David Snow officiating.

Martha was born April 10, 1939, in West Palm Beach, Florida, to Carl Fred Calloway and Ethel Ham Calloway. A life-long Florida resident, Martha moved to North Carolina in 2011 to be nearer to her beloved grandchildren and volunteered at Mt. Pleasant Elementary School.

Martha was a homemaker who was most happy when serving others. She always put the needs of others first, especially when it came to her children and grandchildren. Holidays at her house were great times for the entire family, and Thanksgiving sleepovers made life-long memories for her grandchildren. Martha enjoyed baking, with exceptional Italian cream cakes her specialty, crocheting untold numbers of blankets, and working jigsaw puzzles, all tangible reminders of a simple life well lived.

Left to cherish her memory are a son, Richard Hammac (Rachel) of Mt. Pleasant; a daughter, Brenda L. Lamb (Kevin) of Royal Palm Beach, Florida; two brothers, Carl Calloway (Darlene) and Gene Calloway (Becky); four grandchildren, Sean Lamb, Sara Lamb, Josh Hammac, and Noah Hammac; one great-grandchild, Brandon Lamb; three nephews, Carl Calloway, Steven Calloway and Robert Calloway and their families; and a niece, Christy Calloway Swearingen and her family.

“Mom, you will be missed, but we know you are with Jesus, probably trying to help him out or crocheting Him a blanket. You will be missed, but never forgotten. Love you always.”
