Margie Freeman Barbee, 76, of Concord, passed away Monday, Jan. 4, 2016 at CMC-Northeast.
A celebration of her life will begin at 2:00pm Thursday, Jan. 7, at St. Stephen's Wesleyan Church, where she will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service, officiated by Rev. Arvil Rushing and Rev. Queen Jones. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The Barbee family will receive friends from 6-8pm Wednesday evening at Gordon Funeral Home of Mt. Pleasant.
Mrs. Barbee was born August 7, 1939 in Montgomery County, daughter of the late Robert Freeman and Elgie Atkins Freeman. She was a member of St. Stephen's Wesleyan Church and she served at several churchs as organist for 50 years. She enjoyed sewing and was well known for her cake decorating skills. She was a graduate of Central Wesleyan Academy and Winthrop University. She taught high school for 35 years at Parkwood High School in Union County, Concord and Mt. Pleasant High Schools in Cabarrus County. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a sister, Diana Lemons and a brother George Freeman
She is survived by her husband Tracy Barbee, daughter, Margaret Page (Jeff), sons Scott Barbee (Kristin) and Kelly Barbee (Cherilyn), sisters, Brenda Goodman, Shirley Jones, grandchildren, Emily, Ryan, Allison, Carson Barbee, and Brianna Page, brother in law Jim Lemons, sister in law Janet Freeman
