Mae Simpson Russell, 81, of Mt. Pleasant, NC went to be with her savior on October 23, 2023. She was born in Buffalo, NY to the late Rita and John Simpson. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years James Lee Russell. They had two sons John Russell of Concord, NC and Brent Russell of North Myrtle Beach, SC.
Mae was a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother. She treasured her family more than life itself. She especially loved being a grandmother to her five grandchildren. She was known by many simply as “Nanny Mae”. She volunteered her time at St. James Catholic Church making blankets for the local children’s hospital and serving on the hospitality committee as well as with the Sisters of Mercy. She loved cooking, baking, and doing crafts of any kind with her sisters Bette McIntyre and Pat Rice. Her greatest passion however was her family. She leaves a legacy of love like no other.
Mae grew up in the rolling hills of upstate New York and relocated to Mt. Pleasant, NC Carolina in 1982. She later retired from Phillip Morris USA after 17 years of service. She split her time between Mt. Pleasant and North Myrtle Beach.
She will be missed greatly by many and is survived by her two sons John and Brent and their wives Susan and Heather. She had three sisters and three brothers; 5 grandchildren: Keri, Kristi, Josh, Jacob and Ethan – as well as many nieces, nephews, three great grandchildren and numerous grand dogs and cats.
Services will be held at St. James Catholic Church on Friday October 27th. The family will receive visitors from 10:00AM to 11:00AM followed by a full mass ceremony at 11:00AM. There will also be a luncheon after mass. In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Mt. Pleasant Food Ministry or the Live Like Norah foundation in her memory.
