Mae Irene Fink Carriker passed away on January 12th, 2021 at her home surrounded by her loving family after six months of declining health. She was the oldest daughter of the late Rosa Bell Kluttz Fink and J. Ralph Fink born on October 3rd, 1923.
Mae was proceeded in death by her husband of 60 years, John A. Carriker, sister Marie Stancil Erving, brothers Raymond (Buck) and John Ray Fink. Surviving to cherish her memory are her sons Garry (Dian), Terry, Jerry (Becky), daughter Frances Helms and daughter in law Tammy. She was the proud grandmother of nine grandchildren and ten great grandchildren (with one on the way).
Mae retired from Cannon Mills No. 1 Weave Room in 1986. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Mae was a modest but wonderful country cook who kept her refrigerator well stocked for anyone who stopped in. You could count on her having macaroni and cheese and her signature apple pie. Mae had a green thumb evidenced by the beautiful garden she and John always had. Summers were spent snapping beans on her back porch and canning vegetables in her basement. Mae loved being outdoors; and if her lawnmower would start, you would find her on it mowing her grass even when it did not need it. Her beloved golf cart was her preferred mode of transportation in her later years.
Mom loved all her animals especially her cats and little dogs. The family often teased her about how fat her dogs were; and it was no wonder- there was always a buffet available just for them.
Special thanks to Teresa Saunders, Mom’s caregiver who treated her like the princess she was. We could never repay her for the love and kindness she showed Mom. Lucas, Teresa’s son, was also a source of comfort to Mom.
The body will lie in state at Gordon Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant from 9:00am until 2:00pm on Friday, January 15th, 2021.
Her service will be held at Gordon Funeral Home of Mt. Pleasant. The family will receive friends from 2:00pm to 3:00pm with the service following immediately afterward at the Funeral Home and internment in the church cemetery. Memorials in lieu of flowers may be made to Mt. Olive Lutheran Church 9400 Gold Hill Road, Mt. Pleasant, NC 28124.
