Luther David Ritchie of Concord went to be with our Lord Jesus Christ on Friday, August 2nd, 2013. He was born on March 25, 1925 to the late Jessie David Ritchie and Maggie Ketner Ritchie. He was preceded in death by 7 brothers, Wright, Claud, Cecil, Foy, Lloyd, Max, and Wayne; and 2 sisters, Mary Barbee & Elsie Lentz.
Luther served our country proudly in both the Infantry and the Armored Divisions of the U.S. Army seeing action in France, Italy, and Germany during WWII. He married Mary Lou McPhatter on September 3, 1943, and after being honorably discharged from the Army worked 45 years at Cannon Mills; first as a weaver and later as a fixer before retiring in March of 1987. Luther spent many years assisting with Awana and Boy Scout activities & events. He had many friends and was always ready to lend a helping hand or listening ear whenever or wherever it was needed. After retiring Luther often said that he had so many things to do and keep him busy that he didn't know how he had ever found the time to go to work.
Luther is survived by his wife of 70 years, Mary Lou McPhatter Ritchie, son Michael David Ritchie and wife Mary Jo; daughter Cynthia (Cindi) Ritchie Hinson all of Concord; 4 grandchildren Scott Hinson and wife Diana of Virginia Beach, VA; Stephanie Hinson, Amy Shapley, and Michael Todd Ritchie all of Concord; 6 great-grandchildren Kalie Hinson, Ronnie Richmond, Tyler Hudgston, Owen Shapley, Andrew Hinson, Sagan Rich, 2 brothers, Ned Ritchie and wife Elizabeth of Concord; Archie Ritchie of Garner, 1 sister, Shelby McClester and husband Herman of Locust, NC, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family will receive friends from 10 am - 12 noon at Glorieta Baptist Church located at 4912 Hwy 73 East; Concord, NC; 28025 followed by a memorial service on Saturday, August 10th at 12:00 noon.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Hospice & Palliative Care of Cabarrus County; 5003 Hospice Lane; Kannapolis, NC 28081.
