Linda Suther Herring

Linda Kay Suther Herring, 79 of Concord went to be with her heavenly father on Thursday, December 21^st, 2023, surrounded by her loving family.

Funeral Services will be held 12 noon Saturday December 23 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, officiated by Rev. Keith Copeland. The Herring family will receive friends from 11am-12 prior to the service. Private burial will be held in the church cemetery.

Linda was born January 5^th, 1944 in Concord North Carolina to the late John D.  Suther and the late Gladys Louise Suther. She was preceded in death by brothers George and John Suther. As the only girl among four brothers, she loved the outdoors and being raised on a farm. Over the years, Linda sang in the choir, taught Bible and Sunday School, and belonged to the Luther League all at St. John’s Lutheran Church of Concord. 

She loved playing Basketball at MPHS and served at the captain her senior year, graduating in 1962. She went on to earn her degree at Kannapolis Business College and secured a position at Kannapolis Bakery as the Payroll Clerk before she married William Mike Herring on June 28^th, 1964.

Linda followed Mike, a career Navy man throughout his journey serving our country for 20 years. Along the way they started their family with sons William, Daniel, and Douglas. Linda served many military families as the “Ombudsman” for the USS Sylvania AFS-2 which was the last ship Mike served abroad.

After Mike’s retirement in 1982, they returned to Concord to live. Later in life, Linda served on the Cabarrus County Genealogy Society and the Home Extension Club. She became the family and community historian for St. John’s Lutheran Heritage Center. She had a passion for preserving historical artifacts and keepsakes for families.

Linda cherished her time spent with grandsons Chandler, Chace, Avery, Ian and extended family grandson Brandon and wife Jennifer, Myles, and Allie.

She is survived by husband William Mike Herring of 59 years. Sons, William and wife Annette, Daniel and wife Dawn, Douglas and wife Stacy, brothers Louis and Charles Suther and multiple nieces and nephews.
