Mr. Leonard Farrell Worrell, 89 of Hwy 49, Mt. Pleasant, died Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at the NC State Veteran Home, Salisbury.
Funeral service will be 11:00am Friday at Bethel (Bear Creek) United Church of Christ officiated by Rev. Bobby Bonds and Rev. Terri Barringer, burial will follow in the church cemetery. Graveside military honors will be provided by the Cabarrus County Veterans Honor Guard.
The Worrell family will receive friends for 5:30-7:00pm Thursday evening at Gordon Funeral Home of Mt. Pleasant.
Mr. Worrell was born December 14, 1923 son of the late Wiley Worrell and Lillie Glover Worrell. He was a Master Sergeant in the US Army serving during WWII. He was an active member of Bethel (Bear Creek) United Church of Christ, where he had served on the consistory and active in the Men's Fellowship. He worked for the NCDOT for 33 years. He enjoyed bowling and fishing and was an avid Duke Basketball Fan. In his younger years he played semi-pro baseball in the Yadkin Valley League. He was a member of the American Legion, and also a charter member of Northeast Volunteer Fire Department. He was preceded in death by his wife Colleen Worrell.
He is survived by daughters, Cynthia Buckwell and husband Jimmy and Susan Euart and husband Dave, grandchildren, Kenneth Buckwell and wife Shanin, Douglas Buckwell and wife Katie, Hope Berrier and friend Eric, and Holly Harris and husband Anthony, great grandchildren, Hunter, McKenna, Brookelynn, Elizabeth, Krista, Elijah, Madison, Thomas, Chloey, Lilly, Shannon, Tristin.
