Larry Lee Shoe, 75, of Mt. Pleasant, NC, passed on October 27, 2024, at Atrium Health Pineville surrounded by family members and close friends.
Born December 1, 1948, in Albemarle, NC, to Isaac and Vergie Hatley Shoe, Larry was raised in the Finger Community of Stanly County, attending Millingport School and North Stanly High School. He served in the US Marines from 1968 to 1971, being deployed to Vietnam in 1969-1970.
Larry attended Pfeiffer University studying Criminal Justice and was employed by the NC Department of Prisons from 1971 until his retirement in 1998 where he retired as the Superintendent of Prisons for Union County. Larry was honored at his retirement with the Order of the Long Leaf Pine by then Governor Jim Hunt.
Preceding Larry in death were his parents, his first wife, Renee Parker Shoe in 2009, and his second wife, Phyllis Kensaw Shoe, in 2018. He is survived by many cousins, nephews, nieces and numerous friends.
Larry enjoyed traveling, having visited all 50 states and most of Canada.
A Celebration of Larry’s life officiated by Rev. Neill Shaw, will be a graveside service at Salem Methodist Church where he was a life-time member on Friday, November 1, 2024 at 11:00 a.m.
A reception following the service will be held in Salem’s Fellowship Building where family and friends will gather to celebrate Larry’s life.
Memorials in Larry’s memory may be made to the Salem Church Cemetery, 20987 NC 73 Highway, Albemarle, NC 28001.
