Larry Maurice Danforth, 81, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away at his home Saturday, Sept. 2, 2017.
A celebration of his life will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 9, in the chapel of Gordon Funeral Home, 8559 Cook Street, Mt. Pleasant. The Danforth family will receive friends beginning at 1 p.m.
Larry was born to Frances Hudgins Danforth and James Felton Danforth in Atlanta, Georgia, on March 3, 1936. He retired from a 30-year career in pharmaceutical sales and key account management with Pfizer in New York. He served his country as a member of the US Navy Reserve.
His greatest joys were being “Poppie” to his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. An avid craftsman, gardener, traveler and outdoorsman, Larry was particularly fond of boating and fishing and camping with the grandchildren, instilling a love for nature and the outdoors that is his legacy. In recent years, he especially enjoyed spending time with his great-grandchildren.
Larry is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mildred “Mimi” Biddy Danforth of the home; two daughters, Sonia Jan Danforth Cox (Terry) of Charlotte, and Lisa Danforth Stewart of Midland; six grandchildren, Amanda Suzanne Geste (Mal) of Western Australia, Jennifer Dare Fales (Troy) of Seagrove, and Tiffany Stewart, Ashley Stewart and Hailey Stewart, all of Midland and James Cox of Charlotte; and seven great-grandchildren, Timothy, Nathan, Charlotte, Joshua, Miles, Lily and Grace.
