Joy Treadaway, 92, of Monroe, NC passed away Saturday, January 7, 2023, after a long illness. Joy’s life will be memorialized and celebrated during a graveside service at Lakeland Memorial Park (Monroe, NC) on Tuesday, January 10th at 2:00pm.
Joy was the proud daughter of Appleton and Eva Plyler, born April 23rd, 1930. As the oldest of eight children, she became the “second mother” to Dene, Flo, Vera, Dillon, Harold, Carol, and Judy. She married Robert Treadaway, and went on to enjoy a very long and successful career with Southern Bell. She was a longtime active member of Calvary Baptist Church in Monroe. Joy was the mother of two boys, Sam and Mitch; but her ever-loving “joy” was her grandchildren – Tyler, Caroline, David, and Brooks. Outside of her family, Joy enjoyed the North Carolina mountains, gardening, and painting.
Joy is predeceased by her husband of 48 years, Robert Samuel Treadaway; parents Appleton Paul Plyler and Eva Laney Plyler; and brothers Donald Harold Plyler and Dillon Laney Plyler.
Joy is survived by sons (daughters-in-law), Robert Samuel Treadaway Jr. (Teresa Gamble Treadaway) and Mitchel Ray Treadaway (Ann Robey Treadaway); and sisters, Norma Vaydene Plyler Hurst, Flo Plyler Laney, Vera Plyler Jenkins, Carol Plyler Wilson, and Judy Plyler Helms. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Tyler Treadaway, Caroline Lawsing, David Treadaway, and Brooks Treadaway; and by three great-grandchildren Eleanor Treadaway, Fuller Lawsing, and Charlie Treadaway.
In lieu of flowers – the family is requesting that memorial donations be made to Hospice of Lake Norman in gratitude of their great care for Joy during her time of transition. (Hospice and Palliative Care of Lake Norman, 7845 Little Avenue, Charlotte, NC 28226 or www.hpccr.org)
