Mr. John Alexander Walker age 84 passed away December 30th, 2014.
Funeral service will be 4 p.m. Friday at St John's Lutheran Church, Concord officiated by Reverend Dr. Mark Erickson. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The Walker family will receive friends from 2 until 4 Friday at the church prior to the funeral service.
Mr. Walker was born in Cabarrus County September 29th, 1930 son of the late Paul A. Walker and Mary Lillie Cress Walker. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, where he had served on church council, property committee and the cemetery committee. He was a member of St. John's Grange where he had served on the executive board. He also served on the Cabarrus-Mecklenburg Farm Service for 27 years. He had just retired from the Cabarrus County Farm Bureau Board of Directors with 30 years of service. He was the former Chief and Director of Cold Water Volunteer Fire Department. He was a US Army Veteran. He was a lifelong farmer and ran a saw mill with his late brother Ray Walker. He was preceded in death by his wife Sarah Walker.
He is survived by son Carl Walker and wife Pam of Concord, daughter Mary Sloop and husband Tim of Salisbury, sisters Marie Wallace of Davidson, and Amelia Ritchie and husband Ralph of Concord, half brothers Charles Walker and wife Nancy of Concord and Paul Walker and wife Louise of Mount Pleasant, half sister Rose Barrier and husband Luther of Mount Pleasant, grandchildren Elizabeth Sinnott and husband David, Sarah Sloop, Jason Walker and wife Jennifer and Cody Walker, great-grandchildren Silas and Sloan. Also, a special friend, Peggy Poplin.
