John Carl Murdock III, age 80, passed away on March 15th in Mt. Pleasant, NC. He was born on October 16, 1943, in Iredell County, North Carolina. John was a caring husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and neighbor.
A Civil Engineer by profession, John started his career with the state of North Carolina investigating environmental incidents. He later transitioned into managing various projects in civil construction. His contributions led him to serve as the Rocky River Waste Water Treatment Plant Administrator and he eventually became the founding Executive Director of the Cabarrus County Water and Sewer Authority.
John will be deeply missed and is survived by his wife, Louise Murdock, his children Jodie Murdock, Monty Murdock, and Amanda Herring, as well as his grandchildren Riley, Maddie, Alex, Brianna, and Caylin. He is also survived by his stepsister Cathy Murdock Paige, sister-in-law Jeanne Brown, daughter-in-law Maritza Murdock, son-in-law Andy Herring, niece Debbie Whitley, and many other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his father John Carl Murdock, Jr, mother Frances L. Murdock, sister Nancy Anne Barnes, stepfather Gilmer Lethco Murdock, Sr, stepbrother Gilmer Lethco Murdock, Jr, father-in-law Moffat Knox Brown, mother-in-law Gertrude Padgett Brown, and brother-in-law Melvin Keith Brown.
John was a craftsman, handyman, and mechanic who enjoyed attending his grandchildren's athletic events, band performances, and theatrical events. He was passionate about woodworking and traveling with his wife, Louise.
A service to honor John's life will be held on Thursday, March 21st, at St. John's Lutheran Church, located at 100 St. John's Church Road, Concord, NC 28025, starting at 3:00 pm, with receiving from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm.
