Joe Cress

Joe David Cress, 87, of Concord, passed away at his home on Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2018.

A celebration of his life will begin at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 16, in the chapel of Gordon Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with the Rev. Kevin McCormac officiating. The Cress family will receive friends there beginning at noon. Burial will follow at St. John’s Lutheran Church Cemetery.

A Cabarrus County native, Joe was born Jan. 29, 1931, to the late Jay L. Cress and Cora Walker Cress. A proud veteran, Joe served his country in the U.S. Navy. His career was as a United States Postal Service rural mail carrier, and for 60 years he also worked at the Rimertown Livestock Barn. A farmer at heart, he never grew tired of working the land and tending animals. Equally dedicated to community service, Joe was a long-time board member of both the Cold Water Fire Department and the Farm Bureau.

Joe is survived by his wife of 60 years, Geraldene Cochran Cress of the home; three sons, David Cress (Kathryn), Bruce Cress (Debbie) and Mike Cress (Lelani); seven grandchildren, Rebecca Moss, Josh Cress, Joseph Cress, Anna Cress, Kailia Byrd, Jesika Hill and Viktoria DeJesus; seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Lewis Cress (Jane); nephew Brad Cress; and niece, Lauren Hill.
