Mrs. Medlin was born September 28, 1921 in Albemarle, North Carolina. She was the sixth of-four girls and two boys born to Pierce Cody and Grace Cody. Her sisters Myrtle, Mary Francis and Lucille and her brothers Raymond, and William were raised in Albemarle in Stanley County. Jewell graduated high school at Millingport High School with a perfect attendance record while being a star basketball player for the schools varsity team. During these years she met the love of her life, Anson Medlin of Mount Pleasant, and latter married in 1941, just before W or1d War 2. Soon after Anson was called into service into the Navy and both moved on to Norfolk, Va. Where Jewell worked as a civilian until Anson was injured after a year of service. After his medical discharge from the Navy they settled in the Washington D. C. area to start their new life. While Anson and Jewell had strong family ties to Mount Pleasant and Albemarle they would remain in the Northern Virginia area for life while coming home frequently to family in Mount Pleasant which they always considered home.
In 1946 Judith Diane was born and in 1950 Anson Jr. was born. In the 1950's Jewell and Anson were among the foW1ders of the Fairlington United Methodist Church in Alexandria Virginia. .Jewell and Anson had a strong and lifelong commitment to the church and family. Jewell worked endlessly as a homemaker and active participant of their church. .They had a passion for travel and the holy land where they traveled to many times. They were always together in what ever adventure they took on and were married for 72 years.
Jewell, will be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, and mother, a well as a devoted follower of Christ. Her faith never wavered and she lived by it her entire life. She was a very positive and loving person, I don't believe she ever met a person that she couldn't find some good within. She always believed that life was truly a blessing and no one should ever take a day of their life for granted. She always knew that her eventual home would be heaven and for the many of us that mew her 9 we know she found it.
Jewell and Anson have two children and five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Jewell and Anson's daughter Judy resides with her husband Robert, in Houston, Texas where she is a professor at Texas Woman's University, as well as a mother and grandmother. .Jewell's son, A. D. JR resides with his wife Julie, in Fairfax Station, VA, where both are flight attendants and parents of three grown children. She is survived by one sister, Marry Harris of Alexandria, Va. She just turned ninety eight years old.
