James Delano Tomkinson

James “Jim” Delano Tomkinson, 84, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away, Sunday, October 20, 2019 at Atrium Health-Cabarrus.

Funeral service will be 2:00pm Wednesday, Oct. 23, at Oak Grove United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Beau Linker officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Military graveside rites will be provided by the Cabarrus County Veterans Honor Guard.

The Tomkinson family will receive friends from 6-8pm Tuesday, Oct. 22, at Gordon Funeral Home of Mt. Pleasant.

Mr. Tomkinson was born January 13, 1935 in Cabarrus County son of the late Henry Fredrick “Frank” Tomkinson and Anna Hahn Tomkinson. He was a member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church. He attended DeVry College in Chicago to become a TV repairman and ran a TV repair shop in Mt. Pleasant for many years, later he worked for the Town of Mt. Pleasant at the water treatment plant. He served his country in the US Navy on the USS Robinson DD562. He enjoyed going the annual reunions and seeing his shipmates.  He also enjoyed woodworking and yard work, Jim never met a stranger.

He is survived by his wife, Maye Eury Tomkinson, sons Devon Tomkinson (Jeannie) and David Tomkinson (Marcia); brother, Fred Tomkinson (Tancey); grandchildren, Courtney, Matthew and Joshua.
