Herbert (Butch) Mattox, Jr., 65, passed away on Jan. 14, 2016, at his residence. The visitation for family and friends will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 17, at Gordon Funeral Home, 8559 Cook Street, Mt. Pleasant. The celebration of life will begin at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 18 at Gordon Funeral Home with the Rev. Mark Little and the Rev. Roger Bostic officiating. Formerly of Mt. Pleasant, Butch was born in Cabarrus County on Feb. 6, 1950, to the late Herbert Mattox, Sr. and Lois Mattox Mecimore. He was predeceased by a son, Sheldon Trent Mattox, his parents-in-law Buck and Betty Allmon; a sister, Kaye Mattox Kence. Butch worked for McDonald’s Homes for 32 years and in later years at Mt. Pleasant Hardware. Over those years, the McDonald family became part of the Mattox family. Butch was a member of Silver Springs Baptist Church in Norwood, an associate of the Beach and Shag DJs organization and a member of the Piedmont Shag Club. He enjoyed being a DJ for special events in the lives of others, shagging, playing golf and going to the beach. Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Carla Allmon Mattox; a daughter, Haley Mattox Thompson and special son-in-law, Jeff Thompson, a trio Butch called the most important part of his life; a sister, Jackie Mattox Mullicer (Terry); a sister-in-law, Vanessa Allmon Privette (David); special nephew, Chandler Trent; special niece Ariel Trent; and nieces, Leslie Trent, Cassie Robinson, Courtney Needham, Karen Bates, Crystal Duckworth, and Toni Lewis, step father Carl Meicmore and his dog Jerzee Zeb Mattox. His family was the love of his life. His friends were many. Butch never meet a stranger and was one of a kind. The Mattox family extends special thanks to Rae and Connie French, David Privette, Billy Ervin, Susan Airheart, Lynn and Carla King, Brenda Hoover, Darnell Green, the nurses of Hospice of Stanly County, Dr. David Turner and Dr. Brent Kelly.
