Harry Hampton Faggart, 91, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away Monday, May 22, 2017, at Tucker Hospice House in Kannapolis, following a period of declining health.
A celebration of Harry’s life will begin at 11 a.m. Friday at his church, Mt. Pleasant United Methodist, with the Rev. Bruce Gwyn officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The Faggart family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday at Gordon Funeral Home, Mt. Pleasant.
Harry was born May 15, 1926, in Cabarrus County to Romas Lee Faggart and Minnie Mae Cline Faggart. A U.S. Army veteran, he devoted his working life to maintenance projects, specifically with Cabarrus County Schools. He retired as the beloved janitor at Mt. Pleasant High School in 1988.
A lover of nature and all things outdoors, Harry enjoyed gardening, hunting and fishing. A natural Mr. Fix-It, he delighted in tinkering, seldom being stumped by anything that needed repair, even when on its last leg. As long as his health allowed, he was a member of the Mt. Pleasant UMC men’s fellowship group.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Mary Brown Helms Faggart of the home; two daughters, Cynthia F. Efird, and Shelia F. Harwood; a granddaughter, Gloria E. Medlin (Todd); and four great-grandchildren, River, Emma, Walker and Sawyer Medlin.
Contributions in Harry’s memory may be directed to Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church, 1260 College St., Mt. Pleasant, NC, 28124.
Gordon Funeral Home of Mt. Pleasant is serving the Faggart family. Online condolences may be made at www.gordonfuneralhome.com.
