Frances Stephenson Foil, 92, of Mt. Pleasant died Friday, June 24, 2016 at Mt. Pleasant House following a period of declining health.
A celebration of her life will begin at 3:00pm Sunday, June 26, at her church, St. James Reformed Church, 8350 Walnut Street, Mt. Pleasant, with the Rev. Steve Disher officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Her family will receive friends from 1:30pm - 2:30pm at Gordon Funeral Home of Mt. Pleasant.
Mrs. Foil was one of three children born to Frank G. and Stelma Shope Stephenson. She was predeceased by her parents, her step-mother, Mary Peck Stephenson; a sister, Marie S. Jenkins, and her husband, George; a brother, Edwin C. Stephenson; and her husband, Lawson A. Foil.
A graduate of Women’s College, now UNC Greensboro, and UNC Charlotte, Mrs. Foil taught 4th grade at Mt. Pleasant Elementary School for 30 years. She taught Sunday School at St. James, sang alto in the choir and served as a deacon. In retirement, she was actively interested in and involved in the work of the Eastern Cabarrus Historical Society and Museum and enjoyed playing bridge.
Survivors include two sons, Lee Stephen Foil and Warren Lawson Foil, both of Mt. Pleasant; a grandson, Andrew S. Foil, his wife, Candace and their three daughters, Kallie, Katherine and Gabrielle; a sister-in-law, Merle Stephenson; eight nephews and one niece.
