Eugene Stafford Andrews, Jr.

Eugene Stafford Andrews Jr, “Andy” passed on Sunday, Feb 16th after a long hard-fought battle with PSP (Progressive Supranuclear Palsy).

He was born March 6, 1957 in Concord, NC alongside his twin sister Angie, to Eugene and Phyllis Andrews. He graduated from Concord High School in 1975 and worked the majority of his life at Phillip Morris where he was a machine operator for 26 years. Andy was also a forever learner and later received a BFA in Visual Arts from UNC Charlotte and began teaching art. He taught at Northwest School of the Arts and Butler High School in Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools.

Andy loved to read and listen to music and would always share new recommendations with his family and friends and passed his love of reading to his children. Andy was an incredible artist and loved to create art and stories through mediums of all kinds. He often payed tribute to his loved ones through his art work.

But, the most important role he played in life was as a husband, father, and Pawpaw. Anyone who knew him knew his love for his family and especially his grandkids. He was always present at their events and fought hard to stay here with them as long as he could.

Andy loved annual trips to Kure Beach, visiting the aquarium, arcade, pier, Southport, and Fort Fisher.

Andy was kind to everyone and cherished his relationships with students, friends, neighbors, co-workers, family, and all the animals.

He is survived by his wife, Janet Andrews, children Grayson Andrews (Helen Sanders), Annie Kamp (Jason Kamp), grandchildren, Traton Boger, Kylie Boger, and Owen Kamp, parents Eugene Andrews Sr. and Phyllis Kiser Andrews, his twin sister, Angela Ikerd (Stephen Ikerd), his younger brother Todd Andrews (Betsy Andrews) and was preceded in death by his older brother Ricky.

A celebration of life will be held for him later in the spring. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to curepsp.org, Cabarrus Arts Council, or Life Rolls On (a company that provides beach mats for accessibility).
