Ercel Lee Pope Hurlocker, age 88, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away Thursday, January 21, 2016 at St. Andrews Living Center, Concord.
Funeral service will be 1:00pm Monday, Jan. 25, at Gordon Funeral Home of Mt. Pleasant, officiated by Landon Patterson. Burial will follow at Cabarrus Memorial Gardens.
The Hurlocker family will receive friends from 12:30pm to 1:00pm prior to the service at the funeral home.
She was born August 6, 1927 in Union County, daughter of the late James Benjamin Pope and Jessie Mae Bryant Pope. She married Ray on January 10, 1948. She worked for seven years in the billing department at Cannon Mills and became a stay at home mom when they decided to start a family. Ercel was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. She loved teaching Sunday school and she taught for many years at Richfield United Methodist Church. She and Ray loved to travel, and took many traveling vacations while the children were growing up and in later years just the two of them. Following Ray's retirement, their love of travel and camping led them to be campground hosts at Rock Creek Park in Erwin, TN for 10 years.
Survivors include her husband of 68 years, Ray A. Hurlocker, two daughters, Renae Bridges (Kenny), and Ryane Patterson (Phillip), one son Randy Hurlocker (Jane) all of Mt. Pleasant, two sisters, Jean Bollinger and Shirley Haynes, grandchildren, Allison Hines, Nickolas Bridges, Matthew Hurlocker, Kayla Patterson, Landon Patterson, great grandchildren, Maddox Hines, Roman Bridges, Josie Hurlocker, Knox Hurlocker.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at St. Andrew's Assisted Living Center and Community Hospice, for their care during Mrs. Hurlocker's declining health.
