Ellen Sue Powles Love, 80, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away on Sunday, March 19, 2017, at her home following three years of declining health, and seriously ill for three weeks.
A celebration of Sue’s life will begin at 3 p.m. Thursday, March 23, at Gordon Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with the Rev. Gary Bragg officiating. Burial will follow at Cabarrus Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Gordon Funeral Home of Mt Pleasant, beginning at 1 p.m.
A native of Rowan County, Sue was born on April 25, 1936, to the late George Dewey Powles and Nancy O’Neal Powles. In her working life, Sue was a spinner in a yarn mill and was last employed by Tuscarora Cotton Mill in Mt. Pleasant. She was a member of Mt. Pleasant Church of God. She enjoyed working puzzles, gardening, crocheting and the company of her special pet, Eli.
Sue is survived by a son, Bobby Hoover of Mt. Pleasant; four daughters, Robin Hoover of Landis, Jeanie Hoover of Mt. Pleasant, Cindy H. Miller (Mike) of Rockwell and Kim Sawyer of Vass; 14 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; a brother, William “Bill” Powlas of Concord; a special caregiver, Dianne Moose of Concord; and a number of nieces and nephews.
