Elizabeth Eury Barrier, 95, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away Sunday, Oct. 30, 2016, at Universal Health Care in Concord following a period of declining health.
A celebration of Elizabeth’s life will begin at 4:00 pm Friday, Nov. 4, at Mt. Gilead Lutheran Church with the Rev. Ray Sipe officiating. Her family will receive friends from 3-3:45pm at Gordon Funeral Home of Mt. Pleasant. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Elizabeth was born in Cabarrus County on Feb. 8, 1921, to Noah Alexander Eury and Sarah Connor Eury. In addition her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of nearly 70 years, Lee William Barrier, who died in 2010; a son, William Barrier; two brothers, Robert J. Eury and John Eury; and a sister, Martha Bigham.
A 1939 graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School, Elizabeth was a homemaker and nursing assistant, both care-giving roles that she enjoyed, excelled at and was passionate about. She loved her church and was an active member, teaching Sunday school and participating in projects that supported and furthered the church mission.
She is survived by a son, Edward Barrier of Mt. Pleasant; a daughter, Joyce B. Owen and husband, Sheffield of Mt. Pleasant; grandchildren Lori Ann Barrier and husband, Jeff Jones, of Mt. Pleasant; John Owen and wife, Morgan, of Columbia, MO; and Mark Owen and wife, Katherine of Jefferson, GA.; great grandchildren Ian, Tristan and Morgan Jones of Mt. Pleasant, and Liam and Mary Owen of Jefferson, GA; and her sister, Mae Vanderburg of Concord. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Universal Health Care for their care of Elizabeth during her final illness.
