Douglas Ross Cafferty, 44, of Concord, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2017, at Carolinas Health System-Northeast.
A celebration of Doug’s life will begin at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 24, at his church, Cold Springs United Methodist, with the Rev. Dr. Anthony Bell and Rev. Mary Hatley officiating. The Cafferty family will receive friends at the church beginning at 1 p.m. and all other times at the Home of John and Dixie Cafferty.
Doug was born in Harrison County, Kentucky, on Sept. 5, 1973, to John Cafferty and Dixie Jo Ross Cafferty. He was predeceased by his grandparents, Jack and Virginia Ross, and Josiah and Mary M. Cafferty.
A 1993 graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School, Doug was employed by Gatton’s Towing and Recovery in Kannapolis. In leisure hours, he enjoyed Jeepers United, working on model airplanes, The Blue Angels, Carolina Panthers and UNC Tar Heels. He was a former member of Boy Scout Troop 5.
In addition to his parents, Doug is survived by his fiancée Joanna Lipe; two sisters, Sandra C. Hurlocker (Tim) and Jenny C. Bickerstaff; three nieces, Kelby Hurlocker, Madelyn Poole and Kenzie Bickerstaff; two nephews, Garrett Hurlocker and Jack Bickerstaff; and his two dogs, Ellie and Sydney.
The Cafferty family offers special thanks to the staff at Carolinas Health System—Northeast for their compassionate care of Doug during his sudden illness.
Jeepers United has created a benevolent fund in memory of Doug Cafferty. Memorials can be sent to 2630 South Main St. Concord, NC 28027, checks made payable to Jeepers United.
