Dorothy (Dot) Linker Smith, 94, formerly of Irish Potato Road has entered into her eternal life with the Holy Father on April 1, 2012 at Hospice & Palliative Care of Cabarrus County. She has been in declining health for several years.
Services will be held at Cold Springs United Methodist Church, 2:00pm Thursday April 5, 2012, Dr. Neil Haynes and Rev. Mary Hatley will officiate. Burial will be at the church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Wednesday April 4, 2012, at Gordon Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant from 6 to 8 pm, the remainder of the time will be at the home of her Daughter Iris, located on Irish Potato Road.
She was born November 4.1917 in Cabarrus County. Dorothy was the daughter of the late John P. and Julie Tucker Linker. She is preceded in death by five brothers, Albert J., Burton E., Paul E., Alvin W. and Clarence A. Linker. Sisters, Mary Mauney, Cleo Smith and Autie Linker also two Great Grandchildren, Ansley Claire and Claire Elizabeth Horney. And her loving and faithful husband of 58 years Robert L. Smith who passed away on April 15 1993.
Before retirement she worked for many years at Hugh Grey Hosiery Mill, Carol May Finishers of Concord, Penn Carol Hosiery of Mt. Pleasant and Emile Hosiery of Midland. In her early married life she was a homemaker and accomplished seamstress.
She is survived by her children: Iris S. Barnhardt of Concord, Patty and Husband Larry Lusk of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Robert Wayne Smith, and Phyllis Ann McCubbin both of Mt. Pleasant. Five grandchildren Leslie Horney of Crossnore, David Barnhardt of Concord, Ronald Barnhardt of Mt. Gilead, Adam Triplett, and Whitney Hennigar of Virginia, Great Grandchildren. Samuel Barnhardt of Greenville, Sara B. Poplin of Concord, Amy B. Douglas of Rockwell, and Kevin Barnhardt of Kannapolis and Parker Hennigar of Virginia, Harrison, Ethan, and Madison Homey of Crossnore. 6 Great-Great Grandchildren: Mallory, Bricen and Waylen Douglas, of Rockwell, Dylan, Kaleb and Logan Poplin of Concord,
