Doris Jordan Whitaker

Doris Lee Jordan Whitaker, 85, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away at Mt. Pleasant House on Saturday, March 18, 2017. A celebration of her life will begin at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 22, at her church, Mt. Pleasant United Methodist, with the Rev. Bruce Gwyn officiating. Her family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall beginning at 12:30 p.m. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Doris was born in Chesterfield County, SC, on Aug. 6, 1931, to Carson Jordan and Maggie Oliver Jordan. A graduate of Ruby High School, in her working days Doris was employed in the offices of Penn-Carol and Fairmont textile mills in Mt. Pleasant. She was passionate about her family and enjoyed spending time with the multiple generations at the beach. Playing bingo and dancing were favorite pastimes, and Doris was a regular among the locals who gather at least once daily at Hardee’s. Doris is survived by two daughters, Vickie W. Tidwell (Gary) and Janet W. Herring, both of Concord; one son, Dwayne Whitaker (Teresa) of Oak Island, NC; six grandchildren, Jordan Whitaker, Lauren Corl, Joseph Whitaker, Brian Gilmore, Ashlyn Pressley and Shawn Herring; eleven great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and two sisters, Rae Faile of Lancaster, SC, and Sylvia Stepp of Pageland, SC.
