David Ray “Dick” Blackwelder, 89 of Concord, passed away, Tuesday, February 11, 2020, at Atrium Health – Cabarrus.
Funeral service will be 12noon, Saturday, Feb. 15, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, officiated by Rev. Dr. Mark Ericson. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will begin receiving friends at 11:00am prior to the service.
Mr. Blackwelder was born December 28, 1930 in Cabarrus County son of the late Sidney David Blackwelder and Annie Ruth Safrit Blackwelder. He was a lifelong member of St. John’s Lutheran Church. He was a master carpenter working for Laxton Construction, LP Cox Construction and RJ Fisher Construction. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and bee keeping. He also was an avid NY Yankee fan. He was preceded in death by his brothers, John, Paul, Harold, Jim, Earl (Creep), and Ned.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years Monty Wilson Blackwelder; children David Blackwelder (Lisa), Barbara Preddy (Jim) and Michael Blackwelder (Sherrie); grandsons, Justin and Benjamin Preddy; step grandson, Tyler Penninger; sisters-in-law, Pat Blackwelder and Daphne Blackwelder and many nieces and nephews.
