Clifford Leo Summers, II., 77, passed away at Novant Health-Salisbury on Friday, April 2, 2021.
The Summers family will receive friends at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church, where Cliff was a member, on April 11 beginning at 2 p.m. A celebration of Cliff’s life will begin at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Earl Bradshaw officiating.
Born in Morgantown, West Virginia, on April 16, 1943, Cliff was the son of Clifford Leo Summers, Sr., and Alda Elma Buzzard Summers. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Richard D. Summers.
He was a farmer nearly all of his life; starting at age 4 he fed and raised chickens on his family’s farm. He enjoyed working the land, and in retirement raised American Saddlebred show horses. His favorite hobbies included flying as a private pilot, building and flying control-line model aircraft, and singing in the church choir and praise team. For many years, Cliff was the owner and operator of Elm-Cliffe Enterprises, an outdoor power equipment dealership and hardware shop. He was a former member of the Mt. Pleasant Lion’s Club, and a Gideon.
Left to cherish Cliff’s memory are his wife of 58 years, Shelia Parsons Summers, a son, Clifford J., Sr. (Sara), a daughter, Alicia (Chad) Rummage; nine grandchildren, Erika (Damien) Akelman, Kaitlyn, Clifford J., Jr. (Lorena), Cameron (Naomi), Kyle (Katherine), Clarke, Claudia, Caleb, and Kayla Rummage; nine great-grandchildren, Alex, Eleanor, Joseph, Melissa, Caroline, Amelia, Clyde, Adalyn and Callahan; and one brother, Gary (Nan).
