Carl Dwight Kluttz, Sr., passed away peacefully on Friday, December 27, 2019, at Atrium Health Northeast.
A celebration of Carl’s life will begin at 11am, Monday, December 30 at St. James Reformed Church, 8350 Walnut Street in Mt. Pleasant, where he was a life-long member. The Rev. Richard Moore will officiate, and burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The Kluttz family will receive friends from 3-5pm on Sunday, December 29 at Gordon Funeral Home of Mt. Pleasant.
A Cabarrus County native, Carl was born April 22, 1927, the second son of the late Moses Dwight Kluttz and Georgia Eldora Jane Barringer Kluttz of Mt. Pleasant. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife of 61 years, Mary Lee Yount Kluttz, who passed away on December 14, 2012.
Carl proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy, and was among the first group of Mt. Pleasant veterans to receive a Quilt of Valor presented at the Eastern Cabarrus Historical Society in November 2018. By profession, Carl was a milk distributor for Coble Dairy and Biltmore Dairy Farms, retiring after 49 years of driving the big yellow milk truck six days a week. Simultaneously, and until he was 90 years old, Carl farmed, raising cows, pigs and hay.
Survivors left to cherish his memory are three daughters, Carol K. Moffitt (Charlie) of Kannapolis, Martha K. Hatley of Mt. Pleasant, and Amy K. Bigger (William) of Keysville, VA; two sons, Carl Dwight Kluttz, Jr. (Connie) of Gastonia, NC, and David Hugh Kluttz (Kima) of Gold Hill; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a brother, Arthur Lee Kluttz, and a sister, Miriam K. Swaringen, both of Mt. Pleasant; an aunt, Ruth K. Misenheimer of Mt. Pleasant; and a host of nieces and nephews in the Kluttz and Swaringen families.
