Mr. Bobby June (Bob) Cloninger, 86, passed away December 14, 2012 at Hospice & Palliative Care of Cabarrus County. He is the son of the late Laben June and Flossie Simmons Cloninger. He was a graduate of Kings Mountain High School and served two years in the U.S. Navy. Bob served 36 years with the North Carolina State Highway Patrol and served 20 years with the Cabarrus County Sheriff's Department. He was preceded in death by five sisters and two brothers as well as his granddaughter, Elizabeth Harrison Cloninger. Bob was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Holy Trinity in Mount Pleasant, a 32nd Degree Mason and a Shriner. He received the Order of the Long Leaf Pine in March 1986.
Visitation will be at the Lutheran Church of the Holy Trinity in Mount Pleasant on Sunday, December 16 from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm. Funeral services will be 3 pm Monday the 17th of December at The Lutheran Church of The Holy Trinity in Mount Pleasant. Bob will be laid to rest in the Holy Trinity Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Bernice Harrison Cloninger. Two sons: Mr. Robert Harrison "Bobby" Cloninger and wife, Lynda, of Concord and the Honorable David Brent Cloninger of Mount Pleasant. Sisters: Mrs. Annie Fredrick of Kings Mountain and Mrs. Peggy Harmon of Conover. One brother, Mr. Reece Cloninger of Atlanta, GA. Sister-in-law, Louise H. Dover of Kings Mountain and brother-in-law, Joe Harrison of Myrtle Beach, SC. Grandchildren: Emily Cloninger Slagle and her husband, Jacob, of Mount Pleasant, Anna Cloninger of St. Kitts, Basseterre and Robert Cloninger of Wilmington. One great grandchild: Caroline Grace Slagle of Mount Pleasant.
His gentle spirit and passion for his family endeared him to those that knew him.
