Mr. Billie Richard Cline, 83, of Hwy 73 E., Mt. Pleasant, passed away, Sunday, 27 April 2014 at the Hospice & Palliative Care of Cabarrus County's Tucker House. He was born in Mt Pleasant to Pearl Estelle Cline on 16 May 1930. On 27 March 1954 he was married in First Baptist Church, Mt Pleasant to Zelia Humphrey, daughter of Ernest H. and Amanda Brindle Humphrey.
A funeral service will be 11:00 am Tuesday, Apr. 29, at Kerr Memorial Baptist Church, Concord, NC of which he was a member. Dr Stanley Spence and Dr Charles Yarborough will officiate; burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis.
The Cline family will receive friends from 6:00-7:30pm Monday, Apr. 28, at Gordon Funeral Home of Mt. Pleasant.
Mr. Cline was owner and operator of an Esso Service Station in Mt Pleasant for several years as a young man. He was a retired hosiery mill fixer, working with Trend Hosiery in Concord and Fairmont Knitting in Mt. Pleasant; he also worked for David F. Barnhardt in Mt. Pleasant. He was a US Army veteran serving during the Korean War with the occupation forces in Germany. He served the 583rd Medical Ambulance Company in Landstuhl at the U S Army Hospital.
He was predeceased by his mother, his brother J W "Shike" Cline and his wife Mary Lou Crayton Cline; Uncles Webb Cline, Mavin Cline, Grady Cline, Aunts Juanita Cline Eudy, Virginia Cline Burris, Donnie Cline Wilkinson and Edna Cline Walker.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Zelia Humphrey Cline, daughters, Joy C Cline of Raleigh, and Penni Cline Gibson-Barrett and husband Lynn of Monroe, grandchildren, J. Christopher Gibson and Jerilyn Brie Barrett both of Monroe and a nephew Keith Cline and wife Carolyn.
