Betty Faggart Ritchie, 79, of the St. John's community, Concord went to be with her heavenly father Tuesday, October 4, 2011 after a courageous battle with cancer.
Betty was born September 28, 1932 to Romas Lee Faggart and Minnie Cline Faggart. She was educated in Cabarrus County Schools and was married for 53 years to Foy Otto Ritchie who preceeded her in death on December 21,2003.
After working for many years in the Mt. Pleasant High School cafeteria, Betty began working for Cabarrus County Lunch Plus program which she retired from in 2005.
Betty enjoyed cooking, sewing, working in her garden and especially spoiling her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She was very active at St. John's Lutheran church where she was a Sunday School teacher, a member of the Ann Petrea Circle and was chair person for the bereavement meal committee for many years. She was also active in the St. John's Grange where she was named Grange Women of the Year and Grange Family of the Year.
Betty was preceeded in death by her parents, her husband Foy Ritchie, sisters Pearl Faggart and Jewel Kluttz and brothers Robert, Vernon, Homer and Joe Faggart.
Left to cherish her memory is her daughter Nancy R. Blair (Sonny) and her sons Gary M. Ritchie (Sharon), all of Concord, and Darrel F. Ritchie of Kannapolis. Grandchildren Alyson B. Almond (Brian), Ashley M. Blair, Sean B. Blair, Emily R. Hartsell (John) and AJ Blair and her great grandchildren Gracin, Kaedyn, Ryleigh and Easton.
She is also survived by a sister Anna Belle Hartsell, brother Harry Faggart (Brown) and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be at Gordon Funeral Home of Mt. Pleasant on Thursday, October 6, 2011 from 5:00 - 7:00 pm. The family will, at other times, be at her home.
Funeral service will be held at St. John's Lutheran Church on Friday, October 7, 2011 at 2:00 pm. The service will be officiated by the Rev. Don Deal and Rev. Ted Goins. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Brent Kelly, Dr. James Wall and his nurse JoAnna, the wonderful nursing staff on the Oncology Unit at CMC-NorthEast, Dianna Reese, Betty Frye and Dianna Johnson.
They also request that, instead of flowers, memorials be made to the Foy O. and Betty F. Ritchie Playschool Scholarship Fund at St. John's Lutheran Church 100 St. John's Church Road, Concord or the American Cancer Society.
